Introduction
Not long ago, I wrote detailed recipes about how to make crispy pork belly. What if you have some leftover roast pork belly after you make that crispy crackling skin?
Don’t worry. The more leftovers you have, the better. Today, we will learn how to use that overnight pork belly and transform it into a new delicious yummy dish you would never have thought of. This one is a Chinese inspired keto pork belly dish.
What to do with leftover crispy pork belly
The skin will no longer be crispy when a crispy pork belly is left over. It doesn’t feel right eating that. But the good news is we will make that pork belly lively again.
This time around, you will find crunchy, and crispy and sweet with a touch of garlic flavor. We are going to stir-fry with garlic. Stir-fry is definitely one of the best and easy way to cook pork belly.
What about the leftover Store-Bought Crispy Pork Belly
This recipe also works on the store-bought crackling pork belly. If you have bought some crispy pork belly or Chinese Siu Yuk, the same rules and regulations apply as long as it is leftover.
Traditional Vs. Keto Version Recipe
I learned the traditional leftover pork belly recipe from my mom. So, I assume this is a Chinese recipe. Modification is made to adapt to the Keto version. I will also list all the ingredients for the original recipe. If you have yet to learn what Keto is, don’t worry. In simple layperson’s terms, the Keto diet is a low-sugar diet.
For me, the Keto recipe is fun compared to the traditional one. There is always a chance you mess up during the recipe development stage. The mess-up could end up being something unique and delicious.
Keto is a new flavor, low sugar substitution diet that is pretty much a “Fusion” diet in my humble experience. I admire a lot of keto-ers who always come out with something weird and creative at the same time delicious.
Just so you know, I don’t mind cooking anything besides Keto. None of my friends and family are Keto, but I still cook for them. Whenever there is a chance, I will try not to mess up their kitchen too much.
Ingredients for leftover crispy pork belly stir fry
- 300-gram leftover crispy pork belly or Siu Yuk
- 1 tablespoon of cooking oil.
- 1 Tablespoon of garlic.
- 2 Tablespoon of Bragg Liquid Aminos (or Soy Sauce or Tamari)
- 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Amino. (Non-Keto substituted with Caramel black sauce or any sweet black sauce)
- 1 – 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar (Here, I am using non-calorie Keto sugar).
Notes: The purpose of coconut amino/sweet black sauce is to make the pork belly black.
Details step-by-step leftover crispy pork belly recipe
- Place the leftover crackling pork belly or Siu Yuk into a frying pan (any pans work, including stainless steel).
- Drip in a tablespoon of oil. Stir fry the pork belly with a spatula.
- You will know when it’s done with the pork belly becoming golden brown and lots of oil released from the meat.
- Scope out all the excess fat. Fun facts: If you use a metal spoon on a non-stick pan like me, please proceed carefully. Or your pan will be injured with scratches. See how much oil you got?!
- Garlic in. Notes: We do not put in garlic at the early stage because the garlic will burn out quite quickly. The garlic will become bitter. We do not want bitter pork.
- Stir few seconds.
- Drop two tablespoons of Bragg Liquid Aminos (or Soy Sauce or Tamari)
- Stir until well mixed.
- Put some sugar here—about 1 to a 1-half tablespoon of sugar. Here I put a sugar made of extracted stevia and erythritol. That is zero-calorie sugar. Keep stir frying.
- Finally, I put one tablespoon of Coconut Aminos, which is Keto friendly sauce. For non-keto, use black caramel sauce if you have it. Or, you could use sweet soy sauce. Side notes: Coconut Aminos do not taste like coconut.
- Stir again until they are all well mixed and smell good.
Leftover Crispy Pork Belly in Keto Style
We are going to cook leftover crispy pork belly. This recipe is a Chinese-inspired dish. It is very flavorful with a savory sweet, crunchy pork belly.
Ingredients
- 300-gram leftover crispy pork belly or Siu Yuk
- 1 tablespoon of cooking oil.
- 1 Tablespoon of garlic.
- 2 Tablespoon of Bragg Liquid Aminos (can be replaced by Soy sauce/ Tamari)
- 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Amino. (can be replaced by sweet dark soy sauce/ dark caramel sauce for non keto)
- 1 Tablespoon of erythritol, stevia extract sugar. (can be replaced by pure sugar)
Instructions
- Drip in a tablespoon of oil.
- Stir fry the pork belly until golden brown and lots of oil are released from the meat.
- Scope out all the excess fat.
- Put in garlic and stir fry until well mixed.
- Drop two tablespoons of Bragg Liquid Aminos (Soy Sauce or Tamari). Keep stirring until well mixed.
- Sugar in. Stir fry.
- Put one tablespoon of Coconut Aminos (non-keto dark caramel sauce.)
- Stir again until they are all well mixed and smell good.
